Annex 52: Fuels for Efficiency

Purpose and Objectives
The purpose of the annex is to investigate and demonstrate how advanced fuel technologies can contribute to the enhancement of engine efficiency.

Activities

By collecting information and evaluating the recent progress and potential of technologies, the annex shall provide an overview of possible efficiency gains on combustion engines by use of advanced fuel technologies.
These technologies include:

1.    Fuel formulation for high octane rating (spark ignition fuels)
2.    Fuel formulation for high cetane rating (compression ignition fuels)
3.    Fuel reforming by thermo chemical recuperation
4.    Fuels for lean operation with low NOx
5.    Fuel borne additives that reduce internal engine friction
6.    Fuel and emission control systems that enhance the overall performance and CO2 neutrality of plugin hybrids
7.    Other emerging technologies which should be included for reference
